Sam Alfred

Summiting to the peak of the Australian electronic scene has never looked so effortless for Naarm-based, Egypt-born, Sudanese DJ and producer Sam Alfred.

Coming off his biggest year yet, Alfred tore up clubs across Asia, Europe, and Australia before delivering a career-defining Boiler Room set at AVA Festival in Belfast.

This March, he’s back on home turf for a massive four-city tour, making his stop in Eora/Sydney as stylish as possible with a day-to-night party at The Liberty Hall Courts on Sunday, 6 April. Expect high-energy, euphoric sets packed with ’90s house, garage, and techno heaters—this dancefloor means business.

Alfred’s latest EP, Roadblocks, on the legendary Running Back label made waves globally, and now he’s following it up with I Want You To Know—a peak-time house anthem featuring Kyle Starkey. His sound is a fresh spin on classic rave energy, blending deep-cut influences with a modern, no-fuss, all-vibes approach.

If you’ve caught him at Pitch Music & Arts or Beyond the Valley, you already know—Alfred doesn’t play around. Whether seamlessly shifting through jazz-tinged house or UK garage, his unique sound captures the essence of the modern dance music resurgence while nodding to his ’90s influences.

With his recent success across Europe and his rise in the global circuit, Sam Alfred’s 2025 Australian tour is an unmissable event for dance music fans.

Pokey LaFarge

Our favourite riverboat chic rock-n-roller Pokey LaFarge is back in Australia this May, this time with his band and ready to share his latest offering, Rhumba Country, serving up flavours of mambo, Tropicália, rocksteady, and mid-century American rock-and-roll.

It’s been six years since the Illinois-born singer songwriter embraced our southern shores, when he toured the country in 2019 with a then unknown, Sierra Ferrell.

After crisscrossing and rambling around the USA looking for a home, Pokey LaFarge found himself in Mid-Coast Maine ready to pursue a major life change. Pokey’s time of working 12-hour days on a local farm catalysed an extraordinary burst of creativity and redefined his sense of purpose as an artist. And now he has recorded and birthed his boldest album yet, ready to share with Australian fans.

Rhumba Country (2024, New West Records) was initially shaped from material that emerged while LaFarge was deep in work on the farm. “I’d be pushing a plow or scattering seeds, and the songs would just come to me,” he recalls. “It was tremendously inspirational and made me realize that apart from singing, farming is perhaps the oldest human art form.”

The result is a kaleidoscopic sound informed by LaFarge’s love of music from far-ranging eras and corners of the globe, celebrating life and love.

“The songs that naturally come to me are upbeat and make you wanna dance or at least bop your head—they’re all very colorful,” says LaFarge. “I used to think of my music in dark blue, but now I see it in technicolour.”

You’ve heard his music, you’ve seen him on the screen and stage, now it’s time to experience Pokey LaFarge and his band live with his rocksteady rhythms, country croon and soulful sounds gracing the stages from the East to West Coast of Australia this May.

As the band reaches a quarter-century milestone, these records are largely regarded as highly influential, and it is no wonder each of them has been certified either platinum or gold by the RIAA in the US, and sold over 10 million albums worldwide.

The band is eternally grateful for the love and support of their fans throughout the years. Lead singer Bert McCracken, aka robbietheused, is “Overwhelmed! These first three records are what put The Used on the map. I can’t wait to experience the joy in playing all three records from front to back. I know it will be an amazing time. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Sending love to you all and I hope to see you there!”.  Bassist Jepha adds, “We feel extremely lucky and humbled to have been a part of something way bigger than ourselves for the past 25 years. To everyone that has been there from the beginning or is just starting out your adventure with us thank you. Here’s to the next 25!”.  Drummer Dan Whitesides shares: “We can’t wait to play all of these songs from the first three albums, they mean so much to us as we know they do to so many people.”

Regarded as one of the most important albums in the post-hardcore scene, THE USED‘s self-titled 2002 album went on to influence a generation of artists, peaked at #63 on the Billboard 200 charts, and debuted at #34 on the ARIA Australian Albums charts. Certified platinum in the US and gold in Australia, The Used has been continually praised since release for its balanced mix of angst and beauty, towering craftsmanship and instrumentation, and a flawless outing from frontman Bert McCracken. An unfaltering landmark outing for THE USED, resoundingly celebrated for its infectious melodics, powerful beauty and emotion, and eclectic merging of punk, acoustic, metal, rock and beyond, The Used spawned iconic singles The Taste of Ink and Buried Myself Alive, while also kickstarting THE USED‘s prolific legacy.

Off the back of an extensive touring schedule following the release of their debut full-length, THE USED returned to the studio with producer John Feldmann to conjure their sophomore studio album, 2004’s In Love And Death. Balancing crunchy riffs with creative dexterity, In Love And Death explanded on the polished yet primal tendencies introduced via The Used, and sent THE USED‘s popularity into an entirely new stratosphere; one lined with heart-wrenching anthems, stirring melodics and plenty of spine-tingling heaviness. Across the board, soaring choruses meld with vulnerable lyrics and virtuosic guitar solos, with In Love And Death debuting at #6 on the Billboard 200, and once again reaching platinum and gold certification in the US and Australia respectively, while also igniting significant mainstream global appeal.

Released in 2007, THE USED‘s third studio album, Lies For The Liars, went on to land at #5 on the Billboard 200 chart, debuted at #5 on the ARIA Albums charts, and also become the group’s fastest-selling album in the UK. A high octane collection of cinematic spectacles and captivating arrangements, Lies For The Liars dives head first into guitar-driven rock, balancing levity with sharp production, horror punk and experimental pop injections. With its single Pretty Handsome Awkward tapped to appear on Michael Bay’s 2007 Transformers soundtrack, which itself debuted at #21 on the Billboard 200 charts, Lies For The Liars burgeoned THE USED‘s cultural impact, while also firmly reminding the world why THE USEDwere and still remain one of the most influential and important bands to emerge in the 2000s.
